Liero is a great real-time interpretation of Worms. You control one worm, instead of a team of worms, and the goal is to shoot, explode, splatter and otherwise kill off the enemy worm before it gets you. The most significant change is that the game plays out in real-time, rather than turn by turn, making it much more action-oriented.

The wacky weapons from Worms are back, including bazookas, grenades and the banana bomb. It also includes many new weapons, and my personal favourite amongst them is the hellraider, which shoots out a bouncing fireball that explodes after a while. The ninja rope is also included, and it brings tactical depth into the game, allowing you to swing away from dangerous situations, or to charge towards an unsuspecting opponent. The game is highly customisable, allowing you to adjust the weapon reload times, number of lives and other gameplay elements.

Besides one-on-one deathmatch, other play modes are available as well, such as Tag and Capture the Flag. While the computer opponnent is weak, the game truly shines in multiplayer. A 2-player match could become a frantic exchange of weapons, or a test of wits and tactical manoeuvring. Definitely a great game if you have friends over at your place.
