Long Drift Street Fighter style beat - em - ups are a rare breed on the PC. So its welcome that when a game like One Must Fall 2097 comes along, it does it in style. OMF is set in the future, where giant robots duke it out in arenas for sport. The game doesn't have much of a plot, although the electronic manual does provide some background information on the setting, and the background of the pilots. Before the fight, you'll get to choose both a pilot and a robot. The robots, known as HARs have different special moves, and the choice of pilot will determine the HAR's power, agility and health. Like other beat - em - ups, the key is to master the various special moves and figure out combos that work best with your style of play. Given the large number of robot-pilot combinations, OMF has terrific replay value. However, most of your time will be spent in the tournament mode. You choose a pilot and a starting robot, and guide him / her through a career. Enter tournaments, and win matches to earn cash. If you're good enough, you can win the tournament for a large cash prize. You get to train up your pilot's skills (strength, agility and endurance), and your HAR can be upgraded, or traded for a better HAR. Once you start playing, you'll find OMF hard to put down, coz you'll keep fighting just to earn one more upgrade. Highly addictive, and has great lasting value. |
Where to Get It Epic Megagames released OMF as freeware a while back. They no longer host the file, but you can download it from X-Bot's OMF Universe. There, you'll also find editors, move lists and much more OMF-related content. There's also info on the upcoming sequel, OMF: Battlegrounds. |
